from a health care facility and is unable to read the doctor\u2019s orders or discharge plans, how can they be expected to follow the doctor\u2019s orders, improve health outcomes and avoid rehospitalization?<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><strong>Reasonable Accommodation Requirements<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><strong>Doctor\u2019s Office<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Provide assistance with filling out paperwork<\/li>\n<li>Doctor\u2019s orders, test procedure instructions, prescription information, etc should be provided in large print or other accessible format<\/li>\n<li>Examination areas need to be wheelchair accessible<\/li>\n<li>Efforts must be made to communicate with hearing impaired patients<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><strong>Hospitals and Skilled Nursing Facilities<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Brochures that describe the facility\u2019s services and admission information must be available in an alternate format.<\/li>\n<li>Clear paths of travel on each floor are necessary.<\/li>\n<li>Menus should be read to patients with visual disabilities.<\/li>\n<li>Examination areas and labs must be accessible.<\/li>\n<li>Are discharge plans written in large print or other accessible format?\n<ul>\n<li><strong>How can we expect patients to follow discharge plans if they cannot read and understand them?<\/strong><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong>\u00a0<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>Note: Assisted Living Facilities must also provide printed materials in alternate format<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><strong>Home Health Care<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>When a home health care patient is given a stack of papers that are difficult to read, how are they expected to improve health outcomes and prevent rehospitalization?<\/li>\n<li>Admission booklets and important information on community resources and agency policies need to be available in an accessible format so the patient can refer to them as needed<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><strong>Staff should receive training on the requirements of the ADA and other disability rights laws and
